Search Engine Friendly URLs & MixxMag

    • I am using MixxMag and have tried to use Search Engine Friendly URLs to no avail.
When I engage SEO, all of the existing links from the main page are dead. Although, with SEO engaged, the links are much shorter and "friendly" - they go nowhere...."page not found" error.

Do I just need to re-set up the links after I switch it?

I read the other strings on this topic but the links are dead with Apache mod_rewrite on or off with the proper htaccess/htaccess.txt files. Am using Joomla 1.5.

    • Thanks for the thread - tried everything . . . . .then checked if mod-rewrite is active... yep... So I'm stumped.

When I heard back from my provider...." The first time you upload the file it can take up to an hour for our servers to notice the change, but every subsequent change should be immediate."

So I guess it isn't enabled until the server sees it? I had it enabled for 24 hours, although nested in a lower folder from the main docs folder cause I am beta testing a couple sites on the same server.

I will move the entire install to the main folder and see if the server "sees" it.

    • Thanks for the help...... I finally got it.

Two things were wrong. Newbie mistakes for sure!

1- I had the site nested in a sub folder and you need to alter your .htaccess file if you want to do this. If you are running Joomla from a subdirectory, that
subdirectory must be indicated in the .htaccess file after "ReWriteBase/"

2- When enabling the search engine friendly urls, I renamed the htaccess.txt file to "htaccess". I forgot the . in front of the htaccess. It should have been ".htaccess"
Since Mac's won't let you keep a file ".htaccess" on your desktop because it would interfere with the mac system files, I didn't figure this problem out for a while. blush.

      Cheers.

      You may try TinkerTool
It's free and you can set to allow such file to be shown in your mac
