I've followed these instructions along with a million other tries and continuously come up empty handed. Hate to post but thanks again for your help.
The site is www.upvwork.com (it's a "work" or test is for it's real site www.upvnews.com )
I'm trying to get a 301 redirect from upvwork.com to www.upvwork.com to increase my seo but i can't get the .htaccess to work.

You are missing a command to turn on the rewrite engine.

This is another useful htaccess command if you would like to redirect a specific directory to a single file
* Change folder to the folder you would like to redirect, and change domain.com/page.html to the domain and page number you would like to redirect too.RedirectMatch 301 ^/folder(.*) http://www.domain.com/page.html
This can also be done so all 301 redirects of the folder are done to the domain root:RedirectMatch 301 ^/folder(.*) http://www.domain.com
