replacing sample content/data with my content

Posted 15 years 11 months ago
    • I am reasonably experienced HTML/CSS/Flash developer, but new to Joomla.

Today I joined the joomla club and downloaded akiraka and did the full install with sample content. Being new to Joomla I am glad I did the full install. I have spent the day digging through menus, modules, articles etc trying to get my head around how joomla works.

I can't say that I totally understand joomla, but I am ready to develop my site. Considering all the content you provide and the joomla content, I now have a ton of content that I don't need.

So, here's the question, what, in general is the best way to migrate from the sample content to my own.

Looks like one way to eliminate the different pages is to un-publish all the main menu items except home. I would put my content on home page and then add more menu items.

I guess I would eventually delete all the extra content...?

      Look forward to your input.

Yes, that's one way to do it.

Unpublish what you don't need and then starting your won Sections, Categories, Articles, Menus, Modules, etc.

Another way to do it it to leave the install with the sample data intact to be used as a reference.

Then install another copy of the template with the Rocket Launcher without sample data.

Build your site on the 'clean copy', and as I mentioned, use the install with the sample data to look at the back end or copy code from.

    • Thanks for the reply. I like the idea of installing template without sample data and keeping the first installation for a reference.

    • How do mean install in on a subdomain or something like that? I see there being serious joomla database conflicts if I just do another install sans content.

Yes, you would install the second copy in a sub directory or sub domain on your site using a separate database.

You could also run it on a localhost.

    • I installed without sample data on my local host. Worked fine. Looks a little stark without any content. My job is to fix that.
