Hi,
I am just starting a new Joomla site which is being moved from Mambo 4.6. I was wondering what 'essential' extensions you would recommend, for example I was thinking of using JCE rather than the Tiny MCE editor because I used that on a site last year and found it pretty good. Can anyone recommend some of their favourite extensions for me to consider, in particular I am looking for a 'comments' system that allows visitors to add comments to posts, plus a decent text editor that doesn't keep re-writing my html plus a easy to use lightbox style graphics tool. I am using RT Solar Sentinel on the site.

If I were you I would look into "SuperBlogger" and the soon to be released "K2" by Joomlaworks.gr.
As for moving up from Mambo, I would jump to looking towards a text editor right away. I'd try using the core elements for now and remembering that Joomla 1.6 is due out at least in alpha at some point this year.
The closer to core you stay, the better off you are when it comes to updates.
