SOLVED Changed hosting - Character issues.

    • So I changed hosting for a site that was a complete pain only because of the hosting. I couldn't use JoomlaPack or anything to move it. So, -

      I manually downloaded the whole directory.

      Did a myslq dump of database

      Transferred the domain to new hosting

      Uploaded the directory to new hosting

      Created an new database on new hosting

      Added the myslq dump into the new database

      Now I get funky characters, plus "I have to redo somethings" (cause parts are not working), but my big concern right now is fixing the characters.

      This is how the characters should look

      * Cover
      * ☣Erotic <---- way I want it to be
      * ♂ Art <---- way I want it to be

      but this is how they transferred over.

      * Cover
      * ‚ò£Erotic <
      Nope
      * ‚ôÇ Art <
      Nope

      I can't even add a basic ™ or © without it coming out funky.

      (Please Note: Mature Art Theme - so, close your eyes if you offended at nude art and keep them closed the whole time while you are looking at the site.)

      Below you can see identical copies of the site on both hosting

      furgster.com/ (old site visible here at this domain - the one I want to get away from)

      phpadmin settings - English (en-iso-8859-1) Very limited admin features. No Cpanel (basically a pain lol)

      boobyart.com/ (new hosting, where I want to host, but need it to work lol)

      phpadmin settings - utf8_unicode_ci

      Hoping someone can point me in the right direction.

      Thanks,
      Wingman

      I'd try transferring the site using JoomlPack and see if it makes a difference.

      www.joomlapack.net/

      If that doesn't work, you may have to go back and change things manually.

      Thanks JEM,

      the problem was that joomlapack doesn't work with that hosting, but good news.

      I found out the problem was simple human stupidity - mine. I kept trying to change it over and over - and it didn't change. Of course duh - you have to change the menu item that you are looking at and not the sub menu item - cause it won't make a difference what character set you have if your not looking at what your changing, instead of what you think you are changing.

      So, I figured it out and am fixing it all now.

      Thanks for the quick response.

      RT Rocks...
