How to upload files as a front-end user

Posted 15 years 11 months ago
    • A front-end user setted as publisher is able to upload images in an article but how can he upload files as .pdf or .doc or .xls ? Tried to use same way as images but files seem to upload but in fact they don't. Probably it's only dued to the extension of the file. There is a way to do upload any kind of file in order to publish it without using an FTP program outside of Joomla ? Thank you.

    • On Joomla forum just found this forum.joomla.org/viewtopic.php?f=428&t=407944 but with no solution. I suppose it should be something common enough to be done and surely there must be a quick way for doing it. Will continue searching.

    • Looking over this problem just found out that things change using different templates.
With mixxmag (1.5.10) I can upload .pdf files using the Tiny MCE Editor 2.0 images upload button. This works same way with FF and with IE. I can't view them inside the folder but when linking them the file is there and works correctly.

With terrantribune (1.5.9) I try to upload .pdf files using the same Tiny MCE Editor 2.0 images upload button. First problem that with FF button to scroll files disappears quickly so need to use IE. In any case some times upload works but most of the times it reports "file already exists" or "upload success" but looking inside remote folder using FTP no such file exists.

This problem happens of course only from front-end user, through back-end things work normally.
Just trying to figure where to look for problem. Doesn't seem like an hosting problem so .... :)

    • hi again,

this might not be depending on the template itself, but rather the joomla version i assume.
maybe it will even get fixed when you update to the latest 1.5.11.?

      kat :)
