A little enlightenment please

    • Hi, I´m used to DW and have not used joomla much. However I uploaded through fireftp last year and had forgotten everything since then. However I was able to download and install templates today. Here is my question: I remember installing joomla and the database and so forth, but now I can´t seem to change the styles even though I have made the files writeable. I´m working on my laptop and have not installed joomla on this one, is that necessary? I mean I can do all changes and all except get the styles to change. Previously installed templates are no problem.

    • Hello,

have you tried to clear the Joomla cache, the browser cache, and the cookies?

    • I don´t think that is the problem. I installed joomla on my desktop, but have upgraded both machines after that. I´m running mac by the way. Can´t seem to find where joomla cache is?

My point is, joomla is not installed on the machine, should I do this first? If so, do I need to do everything over again?

    • Hello Kirsten,

I think I am confused now. You said "However I was able to download and install templates today" and at the end you said "I´m working on my laptop and have not installed joomla on this one"
How did you install the template if you don't have Joomla installed?

    • I´m confusing myself now:-)
You know for the first time you download joomla and install it and create a database, then delete the install file. I guess this is what they mean about open source. Once I log on through ftp its up and running like when i create a site in DW.
Anyway I got to change styles in one of the templates. The other one, not successful. One simple question: Do I upload the templates to public_html/templates or www/templates

      Thanks for your quick reply

    • Neither, you should login to yoursite.com/administrator and install the template from the Joomla backend :)

    • Ok, worked like that. Just need to override the .ini file

    • To change the style you don't need to write directly on the params.ini, you can just change it from the Template parameter
Extensions >> Template Manager >> Your template name

I uploaded through admin, but why can I not see the file in fireftp anymore?
