When I make changes with Firebug they dont take

Hey all I'm using firebug. When I type in new code, lets say in the right column, I hit enter on the keyboard. But when I go to the page the new code I type in didnt take effect. How do you save that so the new code takes ?

FireBug is for previewing changes to your site before you make actual changes.
Once you've fond the code you need to change, you have to go to the proper files and make the actual changes. - Thanks,

Is there a way to get Firebug to show you the name of the file? I need to edit for field names, button text and such on these pages:

Using Firebug, I can see (and edit) the code I want to change, but for the life of me I can't find the filename! It's Virtuemart cart stuff, I think it lives in com_virtuemart/themes/vm_red but I can't figure out the filename or path. Is there a Firebug setting I'm missing to get it to show me the path? Or a right-click?
