    • Joomla does not have anything like RokGZipper included. You're probably thinking of gzip compression that can be enabled which has to do with the data that's being send too and from the server and this is a server capability that can be enabled. RokGZipper actually combines and compresses your common files dramatically. It's a pretty powerful extension to include.

As for how sites are graded or rated or critiqued, it's really tough to say which tools to use and what stuff to worry about. Based on most tools out there for this, nearly every site out there would fail. They are rated on quickly a site comes up on a dial up connection and base their results on what websites were 10 years ago. Now, internet connections are much much faster and computers can handle a lot more, so websites are able to put more up.

The RocketTheme templates and RocketLaunchers have a good amount of content and images included. They are still pretty light templates and perform very well, but you aren't going to see a rating that you would get from a page like "google.com" where they only use one image and keep their page to 28 words .

I was serious about optimizing images first. I say that because it you can use absolutely every other trick in the book, and then put one image in that is 400 kb that could have been 100 kb and you use up all the functionality you just worked to create with all those other tricks.

    • If a "new" site came to you already optimized to that extent, you wouldn't be able to make any changes on it. The way you're looking at "optimization" is for a static HTML page that you don't make changes on. Joomla is a dynamic website content management system that requires more.

    • Personally, RokGZipper did nothing for me (on a customised MixxMag installation). It was literally ignored, all the files stayed separate and unzipped

In fact, the js etc seems to look quite unfavourably on all these types of compression (putting the joomla built in Gzip on just kills the site completely). I've got CssJscompress and PHP Speedy running alongside each other with heavily tweaked settings, and that was the only way I could get the site to do the same Css & JS combining that RokGZipper is for, without any of the java being disabled by the compression.

(rokfeature in particular seemed immune to being whitelisted, which was odd)
