Newbie question here- I installed sh404sef, and was overwhelmed with the amount of options. I was wondering, why do I want to use sh404sef? I know a lot of people love it, but what does using the plugin do that the three simple switches in the global configuration can't? I already have it installed, but haven't turned it "on" yet. Thanks for the help!
If you've got a lot of third party components that are coded outside of the Joomla core, unless you are a coding guru, a 3rd party SEF component is one way to go because the often offer 'plug-ins' that make them work nicely.
Also, if you need do do a lot custom redirects, a third party component make this a lot easier.
But in any case, don't underestimate Joomla's core SEF, it jsut might work for you.
I wouldn't go looking for a third party component unless you have trouble getting it to function properly.
Also note, as third party SEF components get updated along with the third party components they support, older plugins will sometimes not function properly until they are updated.
So you sometimes get caught in a loop of waiting for plugins to work with the latest version of the SEF component or other components you are using.
