    Problems with IE6, IE7 and IE8

    Posted 15 years 9 months ago
    • Hi All,

      I noticed this problem with the Synapse template, but I think this could be a general problem.

      My problem is that my website has quite big problems in IE6, IE7 and IE8:

      IE6:
      - the drop down menu's don't work
      - if PNG fix is turned on, then logo disapears and PNG problem still persists
      - if PNG turned off then still PNG problems with the shadow png on the module sides

      IE7:
      - the drop down menu still doesn't work

      IE8:
      - the png shadows are missing from the modules
      - the modules header gets 'split'

      You can visit the live site for testing: http://www.bath-kaposvar.org

      It would be great to have these problems solved since I can't believe that in 3 versions of IE we have problems.

      Of course in Firefox everything is working like a charm.

      Waiting for a solution.

      Regards,
      Siki

    • Can you please disable JCE Utilities and JQuery to see if that makes any difference?

    • It looks great this site!
      No fun intended, but I really like what you did to the template.

    • Hi Prim,

      Finally I had some spare time to play around with this site. No, the problem wasn't JQuery or JCE.

      It was something that had been changed in the index.php of the template. I have no idea when could I have changed it ... or who!? Remains a mistery ...

      On line 57 (for me atleast) I had (after the head tag):

      <meta http-equiv="X-UA-Compatible" content="IE=EmulateIE7" />

      instead of

      <html xmlns=" www.w3.org/1999/xhtml ">

      This fixed my problem with the modules. :shock:

      ... but I still have following problems, maybe somebody has some suggestions:

      In IE 6 I have problems with the PNG's at the modules (shadow).
      In IE 6 and IE7 the drop down doesn't work.

      Cheers,
      S.

    • Hi Roeland,

      Thank you for the positive feedback. The biggest achievement has been done by RT, I've just filled it with content.

      Further suggestions are welcome.

    • Well me again. I managed to solve the problem with the drop down menu. In a previous post I've been advised to use the following in the template css:
      #header { position: relative; z-index: 100; }
      #showcase, #body-bg { position: relative; z-index: 1; }

      What made sense at that point, but now that I found the problem with the modules spacing it stopped my menu to work in ie6 and 7. Removing the code did the trick.

      Still outstanding the PNG problem in IE6.
      And one more thing. Regarding the IE warning to upgrage. Is there a way to have the link replaced to have the update for IE8 instead of 7?

      Thanks everybody,
      S.

    • You may wish to redownload a fresh copy and override the template_Ie6.css and template_ie7.css with the newer copies (backup first).

      /templates/rt_synapse_j15/js/ie6warn.js is where you can edit the warning message content.

    • Hi James,

      I have downloaded the newest Synapse RocketLauncher (dated 24.07.09) and updated my ie 6 and ie7 css files. Sadly my problem with the PNG still persist in IE6.

      If I turn on the PNG fix, then my logo disapears. If disabled works alright, just the png transparency problem persists.

      I don't know if it matters, but I'm using IETester to test my sites.

      Waiting for further suggestions.

      Regards,
      S
