Joomla Theme Header in SMF?

Hi All
Sorry if this has been asked and answered searched with lots of random results...
I have been running an older SMF template and now want to upgrade and run a site with a RT template and have my forum unwrapped nil bridge, but look the same as the main site. Just like on the joomla site.
What tricks do I need and how hard is it to make extra buttons in SMF so the site looks identical no matter where the users are?
