Menu links to components w/ j 1.5x

I've been on j 1.0.x since the Mambo/Joomla divorce and have used SEF Advance since day one. It's my wife's website and she's posted over 9k articles and has over 1,500 listings in her business directory.
We're finally migrating to j 1.5.14 from 1.0.11 and were hoping that the SEF built into J 1.5 would work in a similar way that SEF Advance works on 1.0.x.
I have a couple of questions that are beyond me. .
1. If I create a link to a component such as sobi from within a top-level menu item:
Home->Services->Directory
Can I have the menu URL to the component be domain.com/directory/ ? Or do I have to live with domain.com/services/directory/ ?
2. If I decide to move the menu item to a new parent menu item will the URL change?
