Newsletter or Mailing List extension - recommendations?

I'm looking for a decent option for a mailing list for the members of a web site I've set up. Ideally, those registering would have the opportunity to opt-in to receive the newsletter or not.
So, I was wondering if any of you have any experience with a decent newsletter system, preferably one either integrated with Joomla or that would be able to make use of the list of registered users in Joomla.
Also, I had been hoping JomSocial had a newsletter/mailing list component, but after looking around their web site I wasn't able to determine whether that was the case. Can anyone using it confirm whether it does or not?
Any input regarding either of these questions would be greatly appreciated.
