    SMF access via Joomla bridge

Posted 18 years 3 months ago
    • Hello,

If a matching RT Joomla and SMF theme are installed via a bridge, are access rights to the main SMF home page controlled by Joomla access rights? i.e. if a user is not registerd, would the SMF main home page not be visible?

Also, what Joomla/SMF bridge is recommended for the RT Joomla and SMF themes?

      Thanks.

    • I personally had some bad experiences with SMF & Joomla.

The access rights are not inherited from Joomla thats part of the problems with with Bridges IMO. SMF Login replaces Joomla rights so depending on the bridge you actually have two sets of accses rights managed in seperate systems.

I have had MUCH better experiences and FAR less hassles with Joomla board (Current Ver). It has as many features as SMF but is a quick compment install and inherits looks from Joomla. Joomlaboard inherits all user rights from Joomla, its quick and No Hacks to core Joomla files. Now perhaps the newer bridges are better but still they are brdiges and require some re-coding to work properly, and can cause incompatability problems with other components and modules.

I am sure many of the serious coders here will disagree with me but for a Joomla Novice like me SMF was a pain!

    • Anyone with an opinion which bridge is best?

I'm about to dive into SMF bridging myself. If you look at the bottom of this page, you can get Andy's opinion ;)

    • I have somehow managed to get a Joomla site running Community Builder integrated with SMF using the JoomlaHacks bridge and CB plug-in suite. There was a bit of work as I was doing my integration as the RC versions of the bridge and plug-ins were in development so I suffered a little. The 2.0 releases seeem stable however and bugs seem to have been minimised. Integration seems to work very well now. Support at Joomla hacks is good if sometimes curt. That has worked out well for me. YMMV.
