SOLVED: Solar Sentinel: bad search-engine performance

Posted 15 years 8 months ago
    • Hi... I have spent a lot of time trying to improve the timing of our News site's update in Google. I have both installed a Joomla sitemap extension and also bought Igoomap Xml sitemap generator, put the links in Google Webmaster tools, etc. However, there are still many pages not indexed by Google and the other take tooooo long to get indexed

I see many Joomla sites (even simple sites) getting updated very fastly (Google says "4 hours ago", "5 hour ago"...). But in my case it is always "6 days ago" ... when the page is found!

I like Solar Sentinel so much, but this problem is making me crazy

Please I would love to discover some simple tips that help me to solve this important issue.

      The site is at http://www.juruaonline.com.br

      Thanks.

    • Unfortunatelly, I work alone in that site and have to update it daily. So I did not have time to test another template . If I change the template do the modules (RokStories, RokMicroNews, RokNewsPager, etc) will work well?

Do you think I should do that? Which templates will work better regarding this Google updates issue?

    • I have just installed the new Nexus template. Well, when I set it as the default template everything gets so crazy - probably due to differences in modules structure between Nexus and Solar Sentinel. I can not believe the only solution is to rebuild all the job using another template.

I think it is time to the RocketTheme start developing the RokMetamorphosis extension to allow costumers to migrate from one template to another without getting crazy. (just kidding)

Please say there is a way for me to keep using SolarSentinel and solve my Google problem.

      Thanks once more.

If SolarSentinel is a News template, why it can not be as fast as it?

    • I doubt the template is your problem, they really don't affect your SEO status 'that much'. Other aspects will most likely be the actual cause.

    • It cannot be the template, our small beauty salon site is romping up the rankings with a alexa rank 449109 after just over 3 months and is indexed about every 7 days, while new content is spider'ed within minutes / or an hour or so.
Google and other directories take many factors into account for visit rates and index visit depth. A simple way to get them coming back often is make sure you have a good number of links pointing at your site and importantly deep linking. Looks like you have a heap of content unfortunately I cannot give much advise there as I don't speak Spanish.
Get your site into all your local niche directories, anywhere you can add your site add it. Above all be patient, add new content promote that content, build links and in no time you shoudl be seeing good constant bot visits.

    • Hi, Emma. Thank you so much for your help. Perhaps we have a clue here: my SEF was not working properly, I dont know exactly why. But now I installed sh404SEF and it is working fine. I am now generating a new sitemap.xml with this SEF-structure. We have new content (images, texts and videos) in the site everyday. So its so weird such a bad performance. I manage other (personal) site based in the classic japurity template that is not updated so often and it is well-represented in Google - therefore this Solar Sentinel one should be much better, with lots of daily original content at least since June 08. You're right about the links, but I think this can not explain the issue too. Anyway, I will try to get more deep-links and be more patient. Let's see if with the sh404SEF things get better.

By the way, the language spoken in Brazil is not Spanish. We speak Portuguese.

    • I am happy to say that after doing everything mentioned in this topic and in the other cited herein, the site now is receiving Google's fresh crawls and the new content is indexed very fastly with the "hours ago" tags.

So, I recognize that THE TEMPLATE IS NOT THE PROBLEM.

Thank you for all your help.
