    • This is probably my favourite part of setting a website up. Building a website is relatively easy, making sure everyone can find it is the hard part.

When you walk into a library you will be looking at the names of all the books, you will just see the titles of the books. Exactly the same principle applies to a website. Make your titles interesting and relevant and people will find you very easily. Use major keywords in your title and also your content. The description isn't so important for search engine optimisation, but people will read your description so make that interesting as well.

I now prefer to put my page titles in the title box and create my article headings manually and apply H1 tags.

Without sounding like I'm blowing my own trumpet, this is one of my websites I have just finished migrating over to 1.5. I spent a long time optimising it for the search engines and it does extremely well.it might give you an idea of how you can set up your meta information and get results.

    • I'm no expert on SEO so I can't give you a definitive answer on this one.

While someone may come along and give you the 'magic bullet' answer here, since this is really related to the Joomla core, and not specific to any template, I suggest digging around on joomla.org.
    • Thanks,

    • If you are not using any SEO patches and are just utilizing Joomlas own search engine optimization tools then you can put your main description in the global site meta-description in global configuration. This description will appear on your homepage on all other pages if you leave the description empty.

However, it's normally a good idea to give each page its own description so on any other page apart from your home page, go into metadata information and enter your description for that page, this description will then override the global description for that particular page. I don't put any description in meta-data information on my homepage, The Global site meta- description is what appears as my homepage description.

I like the use of the global site meta- description because this will add a description to components such as photo galleries. If left empty, no description will appear on these.

    • Agree with Penn,

You want to give each page it's own different description. Why? Because you can actually increase your CTR if your meta descr is written well.

Note, it doesn't make you higher ranking but what it will do is google and others will more than likely show your custom written description if your search terms are also found in it.

For example, lets way you page is about Green Widgets...you optimize that page for the Term Green Widgets using H1 tags, inbound links etc etc.

So, in your Meta description, you could write something like:

(Company Name) has the finest Green Widgets anywhere. We offer a great selection of Green Widgets at a price you can afford. Shop online or call (Phone Number)

The nice thing about this is that if your site comes up for green widgets, then not only will this meta desc show up but also the term green widgets will be in bold.

This normally increases your click through rate (CTR).

      Have Fun!

    • @ Penn, your new site is looking good Penn, have you thought about laying out the adsense a little better or have you not got that far yet? I notice you are getting quite a few non targeted ads like New Alzheimer's Treatment and Add Fibre To Your Diet and many more.

Maybe you could use the <!-- google_ad_section_start --> <!-- google_ad_section_end --> tags these can be really good at getting the ads better targeted. Also in content ads will probably lift your click rate up quite a bit as well.

It's looking really good nice use of the template

    • Hi Emma, thanks for the comments, this is actually my favorite template, use it for my personal website as well, plus a couple of other sites, trying not to overuse it :D

Funny you should mention adsence, I've been looking at this just this morning. I don't earn a fortune, enough to pay for my hosting & a little extra in my pocket at the end of the year. However, I am all for improving the performance. I'm still learning about this part of web design so I'm well up for any advice you can give me. Something that is quite confusing to me, and probably lots of other people is the difference between what you earn, & what you actually get paid. I suppose I earn an average of around £100 a month, however I certainly don't get paid that much.

So please fire away with any advice because this is not a field I am too familiar with at the moment.

<!-- google_ad_section_start --> <!-- google_ad_section_end --> would these go before & at the end ADSENCE of the code

    • Hi Penn, I will start a new topic in the water cooler so it is easier for people to find, will post the link here as well, www.rockettheme.com/forum/index.php?f=21..._v=viewtopic#p381929 I think it could be good to have a adsense discussion and maybe a few other options as I would say most people would like to earn a few extra dollars.
