I don't think I would go as far as staying with XP just because Vista doesn't work well with Vista. I absolutely love Vista, it's miles better than XP in my opinion, much more user-friendly and more powerful. They have released a version of Firefox that will work on 64-bit. You don't actually install it, you just open it when needed, I think that's how it works. I'm only just download and that I haven't had the chance to mess around with it yet.
