Sites not working in Firefox on mac snow leopard

Posted 15 years 7 months ago
    • Not too sure if anyone has noticed but I am having a lot of trouble with Joomla and Rocket sites displaying in Firefox. I am currently running Firefox 3.5.3 on a newly installed Snow Leopard on my mac. The same version of Firefox is running fine on another mac without Snow Leopard.

I have noticed that some site half display but without majority of text and other sites like my Rocket Mynxx site only displays half a page.

The trouble I have found seems to be coming from FireBug. That most valued of tools for web developers is causing problems.

Currently the only solution I have found to rectify the problem is to reinstall Firefox and not to enable FireBug. Simply disabling FireBug does not help.

If anyone know another fix then please let me know.

    • Hi James

Yes I do have the most up to date FireBug 1.4.2. I have even noticed that there are 1.5 version in beta mod floating about. I am currently running the 1.4.2 and I always let Firefox auto update my extensions and plugins. FireBug works perfectly fine on my other macs that still use Leopard.

    • Well a new version of Firebug came out this week and didn't seem to make any difference for me. But I think I have found the problem. When Snow Leopard installed it made a bit of a mess of the fonts. I have managed to download a program called Font Finagler when will clear the font cache. An that is what appears to have been the problem.

    • Hi,

Yeah, Snow Leopard completely hosed my local Rocket Theme sites. I can't see any content, menus don't work, on and on. Snow Leopard is a complete disaster. Can you provide any more info on how to fix things?

      Thanks,

    • Font Finangler work at first but after a couple of restarts it was back to normal. I think there is some underlying font issues with Snow Leopard and some older font files.
When I find a fix I will post it.

    • I have had another look at what is happening on my system and it does appear to be a font issue. I run Suitcase Fusion on my mac to manage fonts. When I turn off Fusion then Firefox seems to load ok. But as soon as you run Firefox with Suitcase Fusion then the problem appears again. I have found that if I quit Suitcase then run firefox then run suitcase again then firefox runs ok. This does appear to be a very backward kind of fix but it works for now. Let me know if you have similar resolves

    • Interesting fix. Nice solution, but obviously not a long term fix. I wonder if the problem has anything to do with the fact that Snow Leopard installs php 5.3? It seems that the Drupal folks have been having nightmares running on Snow Leopard (because of the php 5.3). Is Joomla not compatible with 5.3?

    • "Is Joomla not compatible with 5.3?"

No, the latest compatible version is 5.2.9.
