suggested templates for a community site

Posted 15 years 7 months ago
    • id like to buy a template for a community site im building. however, im worried, being a complete joomla and template newbie, that the template i buy wont do what i need it to do. and that is...

I like to have a community site in which the main page contains the main headings and links to 3 different sub-areas: sports, entertainment, and other. howwever, i want these sub areas to also have a main page that is the same as the entire site main page. that make sense?

i like the look of mixmag but i notice the rokfeature (article rotator) links to articles and not to other main pages. can this be changed. if not, any recommendations?

      thanks

All of the components and extension fro RT are based on the Joomla core. A link from one of the components such as rokfeature will only link to the Article that you have created, not other sections, etc.

To do so, for any component requires some custom coding.

If you want to override the Joomla core features, you may be best off searching or posting on joomla.org.

(It may also be possible to link to other pages or sections by not using the Joomla core functions such as 'read more' and creating links manually.)

    • Exactly what did I not answer in my previous post?
      Affinity would be my choice...

When you use the 'Read More' feature in Joomla, it links to the rest of the Article you've created.

It will not link to another page or section, period.

The link is created automatically to show the rest of the Article.

However, you can override this by creating your 'Read More' links manually, linking them to any page or section you desire.

As far as creating a website with 3 distinct categories or sub pages, this is quite easy.

You can do this with any template, all that is required is some basic understanding of how Joomla works with Sections, Categories, etc.
