My two pence worth is simply this...

If any of us could take your templates to the 'next level' we wouldn't need to use rocket themes as a starting place in the first place. Most of us use RT because they offer the best templates you can buy and hence don't need to necessarily improve on them. If I could create a 'wow' template I would and wouldn't be here...

I entered the compo because I thought it would be prestigious to have the WSOTM 'seal' of approval on my site... It might not be a great improvement on the template but again if I could improve on it significantly I'd go off and design my own from scratch... ;)

yeah but, no offence meant with this but, it's nothing special if you don't modify it.

i think the award should be given to someone who takes it to the next level.

you are given the source files, which are the tools.

    • I would agree with Billy. Not everyone will offer up a WOW template modification, but those that do win the competition are certainly folks that would bring much inspiration to RT. Giving an award to someone that just does a 'pedestrian' job will not encourage anyone to excel. Giving an award to someone who has put in the time and has created something special is a goal that others can aspire to.

      I like the quarterly approach.

BTW, thanks GollumX for the vote of confidence. You can catch my latest on the infamous ROCKETTHEME MADNESS poster. Catch me in the upcoming movie! I don't mean to be a 'spoiler', but in the movie one of the judges gets bumped off - after waking up to a horse's head.

      Making headway, Tom!

i completely agree, i just don't think theres much of a point to giving an award out for using the generic rt template with a logo change.

edit: maybe not even "site of the quarter". maybe something like "rockettheme honorable design" and just award it to the few "true" modifications. if anyone understands what i'm getting at there

    • That's a good idea, Billy. Maybe the panel of judges can get together and decide if there is a template or few that stand out and deserve the award. Setting it monthly - or even quarterly might take away from the award being special.

Also, if someone out there is not a really good at modifying templates, but has deep pockets, they might consider commissioning some of the great RT talent to create a mod for them. No guarantees, but it too might be chosen.

Another idea could be the modification hall of fame. This is simply an ongoing showcase of great template modifications. They may not be ultimate RT award quality, but they are still outstanding and need to be shown off.

    • Well Andy, I afriad you are victim of your own success. Your templates are so sweet to begin with there is little need to change them...and now you even add all of these color combinations stock. Thats why I think you are seeing fewer modded templates, there is just no need to mod them as they look and work great right out of the box.

So true! It would have to be something exceptional in order to beat the stock quality RT template.

      I agree

If you make the competition too elitist, it will put off a lot of people, who whilst not being that technically fantastic, have put a lot of effort, time and resources into making their site

You can tell clearly when someone has made a real effort with their site. Just because they may not be scripting geniuses or css wizards, doesn't mean they haven't produced a really good looking site that should be up for consideration.

After alll, people pay you guys to do the hard stuff with the templates ( and a good job you do with them to be fair!)

      :)
