    Not Impressed

Posted 15 years 6 months ago
    • Well well, always nice to wake up in the morning and find out some has cut your day short.

I myself bought a subscription to gain access to one template and one template only and now I can't even access the template forum thread of this template because my subscription has run out.

What kind of aftermarket support is RT pulling off here. I find it ludicrous and absurd to see this is what is called support.

I don't give a rat's ass about accessing other parts, what I do care about is accessing a part of this forum that is relevant to a subscription template that we are using and up until now were proud to say it was from RT.

But that stops today, proud no, pissed off. You bet I am. No other proper company would ever cutoff after market support. (edited by me, fingers were angry)

Maybe I'm off the wall here, maybe I'm not but aside from doing this website and only this site as I do not do this outside of this project, but I do work in the IT industry giving support on cisco, mainframes, telecom and many other IT industry specific tasks. My clients are the cream of the crop and when it comes to support and after 25 years my name and results speak for itself. This on the other hand is not support, not when your held at ransom to get information on something that came from here.

I wonder how the blogs will take point on this type of practice, one thing for sure is, I know of many that would frown upon such acts.

You have good products, as for service, there are many good points, but if one scours the threads, wow, theres a lot of peeved peeps. Making money where it is earned is not a problem and everyone merits rewards for good work, but do we need to be held at ransom for gas or what???

    • Did you read the terms and conditions and faq in the help section before you signed up?

    • By lack of response I guess not. :D

    • It's a very common business model especially in the open source world to have a subscription based support. When you offer a club type service that makes available all your templates to any user no matter what length of membership they sign up for, it's the only incentive you have for people to renew. You are of course free to use the number of templates your entitled to, but continued access to the club portions of the forum require a 'current' membership. You can renew for 20% off. This is clearly stated in the Terms of Service and the various FAQs and Help pages on the site.

    • Compared to what you charge for an hour of your precious time and service – how would you rate the value/prize of RT? (RT's subscriptions are starting at 60$ if I remember right)

    • Well, what can I say, DEV's sure can show response when they want too.

And at least I can relate to a professional point of view such as that from Andy, even if there are exceptions that are either merited or not seen.

And, the fact that your subscription services have changed from what they were one year ago if I recall correctly and did not see the so called fine print nor did I think such a matter would come to the surface.

Now being snarky about my Precious time, well maybe for the help that I provided to others I should send you a bill and take it from there.

Point is, leaving a client in the dork is something I would never do, nor impose in any manner what so ever, and maybe that's why I have the clients I do. I'm not building a website for anyone else other then our own family business. I'm not a webdev, nor do I work in the field of www other then offering advice from time to time.

Lock me out from downloads, fine, lock me out from dev secrets fine, lock me out from the support forum of the template that is giving me and others massive hemorrhoids, well you bet your life I and others would most likely have an issue.

    • Going to have to agree with RocketTheme here; the T&C's are clearly stated when you sign up. If you don't like them, or you don't think it's a good value, then don't sign up, simple as that. Coming in after the fact and accusing them of being underhanded about it is unfair.

Everyone's entitled to their opinion, and this might have made for a good discussion pre sales i.e. "why don't you guys offer this as an option" but post sale, come on.

    • Both sides have points, but like I said, it seems dev's really come out in the mass which shows team support which is fine and dandy, but my point still stands.

And, I for one am sure that there are others who have found themselves in the same boat and question integrity, even if from the dev's point it does not merit outbursts brought on by unwarranted stress.

Ah not "Snarky" ... sorry if my comment did not come across the way I wanted. (my poor english skills again). I just compared the prize of the RT-subscription to what I charge the hour. And in my (in deed very personal) opinion RT is still some kind of a huge bargain ... never wanted to be "snarky" ...

Well you want me to pay a bill? (did I understood that point right?) ... not a bad idea but only if someone pays the bill for the help I offered here 8) ... (already counting "solved threads" ;-) )

    • For the record, our policy regarding forum access, downloads and everything else related to how the RocketTheme clubs work has been the same from day 1. So in over 4 years this has always been how the club works and has not changed.
