Hi, probably an RT staff member mgt be able to help me
My acct expired on Feb 09 and I'm trying to renew it.
I logged in, went to the renewal page and was given only 2 choices for 180 days and 360 days.
Well, how do I choose the 2 months for $40 upgrade option as indicated here http://www.rockettheme.com/joomla-club-details

upgrade is for people who are not in the current club. For example if you are a phpbb3 club member you can 'upgrade' to joomla club for 2 months at $40. However, if you are an existing Joomla club member, the cheapest renewal is $60 for 6 months, which is a much better deal anyway.
so to summarize "upgrade" is for other club members
and "renewal" is for existing expired (or soon to be) members.

Understood.
This then leads to another question :
For ex-subscribers who are coming back to buy a new template for a new site, should they renew at $60 or sign up as a new subscriber (using a different email address) paying $10 less at $50 for 2 mths access?
Note that this user needs just 1 template for 1 new site and has no intention to build more sites in the foreseeable future.

If I understand correctly, renewing for 180 days at $60, vs. a new sign up for 60 days at $50?
(60 days - 1 entitlement vs. 180 days - 2 entitlements)
Remember, when you join or renew, you're not 'buying templates', you are paying for access to all the templates, a certain amount of entitlements, and access to the template specific forums for a specific amount of time, 60, 180, or 365 days....
The key factor IMHO, is the amount of time you have access to the template specific forums.
Although you've mentioned that you don't need additional entitlements, for an additional $10, you get an extra 120 days of support, (which works out to be just $2.50 a month) vs. signing up for for 60 days... - Thanks,

IMHO, after-sales support should be free or offered as an addon purchase.
From a subscriber's point of view, renewing at a 'special' price higher than buying as a new member just doesn't make good buying sense when all I need is 1 new template. A 2nd time deployment of a RT template is much more easier and I can see my new site running in less than a week or so. I don't require 6 mths support, 2 mths is already more than required ..

What happens if you want to get some help in 8 months' time for something that is related to the template on your site? I work with people who want things changed from time to time, and new facilities added, so I'm happy to pay for the whole 365 days. That way, I can ask for help whenever I need it.
In addition, I am sometimes able to help other people in these forums and so put something back into the RT community.

Well, then what is the rationale for having a $50 for 2 mths option for new members?
While experienced members have to renew for a minimum of 6 mths at $60.
Experienced RT users need more/longer support than first-timers? Or first-time users rarely survive beyond the 8th month running mark?
well, I did. 
it's been 10 mths running and the RT template was relatively trouble-free (and that's a compliment)
John, about the contributing back to community part, I have to disagree. Me paying (RT) just to get in so as to dish out help to others who have also paid (RT) expecting some paid support? I'll head over to the community at forums.joomla.org or forums of any other free extensions site I've benefited from. And that is if I become good enough to help others one day

History tend to repeat itself...
I can't count how many (hundreds of) members have chosen the short term renewal and just when their membership is about to (or has expired) a new template comes out and they want to use it.
Then they get upset because they can't access the forum for the template they want to switch to.
How you spend your money is up to you.
If you are still unsatisfied or undecided, I suggest taking Amandeep's advice and contacting support directly.
