Can't assign multiple RT templates via menu selection?

Traditionally, you can 'assign' different templates to different menu items. With so many RT templates at hand, I though I'd try to use the Infuse template on a single menu items (a user blog page) on a site with the default as Affinity.
However, Affinity is stuck using an older (non-nexus) menu system. So, when I assigned Infuse to my blog page, I went in and saw that it was unuasble, because the menus were garbled (Infuse requires the most recent version of the Roknavmenu, while Affinity needs an older one).
Two questions:
1. Is there a logical workaround to this? Only thing I can imagine is to install both menu systems, but I don't think they will play nice together (assuming dual menus can even be loaded at the same time).
2. What are the chances that in the future, newer menu systems will be compatible with older templates?
