    • Regarding Godaddy and the RockeLauncher Package....

Just some additional info and tips. (***Important*** Regarding the following info; this will not transfer your content: This is just to cut down on time if you already have a mysql DB set up with godaddy and were messing around).

If you have joomla installed and a mysql database already set up...and let's just say for example you were just testing stuff out with the standard joomla install or a template... and now you wanted to install the "rocketlauncher package" as a fresh start here is some tips to cut down on time etc...

(Before you do the following listed below, make sure you have your database password, DB Name, DB Host Name and Admin Login / Password written down or open in notepad or something).

      1. Download the rocketlauncher package of your choice (if you haven't already).

      2. Go to godaddy's file manager and then to your folder where your files are at.

      3. Create a new folder and name it whatever you want.

      4. Select all the files (with the exception of the folder you created) and move all those files into the folder you just created. (after doing this, "IF" you go to your url / site you'll notice it'll say something like "cannot connect to datat-base / error etc", don't worry, your database is still there and you won't have to re-install it.

      5. Upload the rocketlauncher package

      6. Once uploaded, "Unarchive" the rocketlauncher file.

      7. Once "unarchived" go to your site / url ( www.yoursite.com ) and follow the steps. No need for the FTP setup (unless you want to)...

      8. When you complete this (it'll tell you but just thought I would mention it); delete the installation file **important**

      9. The folder you created and transferred all the files before the rocketlauncher install, you can delete it,.....or you can keep it if you need to pull / copy images, css or whatever off of it.

This might be pretty simple stuff to some, but I post this cause I know how frustrating it is for others when they are getting started.

Won't go into it now, but if you have a site built with content and want to use the rocket launcher package and KEEP your content, there is a way and I can explain it, just hit me up...

example: (keep in mind I am currently working on these sites and they are under construction for the dominion platform)

      www.glamisnews.net
      www.glamisnews.com
      www.glamisnews.org

Cloned sites (to a degree) but completely independent so as I can control my meta info, php, individual content and so on...

    • I have meticulously followed the first set of instructions and gotten to the point of having unarchived the rocket launcher package. Then when I attempt to go to the "yoursite.com/administrator" page it expects that I want to install Joomla and redirects me to a page at: mysite.com/installation/index.php . Now what?

BTW: I can still get to the "mysite.com/joomla/administrator" page.

    • OK, I went ahead with the installation and it appears that I was right on track. Now I have a question about whether to allow the installation to install sample data. I'll review above to see if that one was answered.

    • Yay, it worked. BTW I called GoDaddy tech support for my host name, user name etc. when setting up MySQL and they helped me to find the information. Also the part where "admin" becomes your user name is after it's all over, and it's easy to change.

If I were a really dedicated type, I would run through the whole thing again, taking screen shots along the way, just to make it really clear.

      Thanks for the help. ~ c a r s o n

    • Brian, I'm interested in keeping some stuff that I've created and trying the rocket launcher for a different template if you'd share that procedure.

    • Aw man... I want to change my template to the new one called Crystalline, but I'm stopped.

      Steps taken so far:
      * Uninstalled Joomla and reinstalled it to the /joomla directory
      * Uploaded the RocketLauncher package to the root directory and unzipped it.
      * Logged into my SQL, but couldn't see what I needed to do to set it up.

      Current State:
      * "Database Error: Unable to connect to the database:Could not connect to MySQL."
      * I am able to access the /joomla section of the website, just fine.

What was unspoken regarding setting up the mySQL database was not clear to me.

    • Carson,

Glad to hear you got it, the cloning of your site all dialed in.... I have found easier ways and Im sure you will to after messing around with this... I now clone my sites totally independent of one another in basically no time at all.

The info I posted was maybe a little to detailed and dude, I got confused over the "admin" user name change thing myself when I first did this...

Some extra info though; not sure if I mentioned this... Once you have cloned your site... all you have to do is copy the CSS from Site A in the file manager and also your images to site B (but from Joomla file images / and also your template theme if need be) and and your set.
