NO CONTENT DISPLAYS IN IE7!

  • NO CONTENT DISPLAYS IN IE7!

    • A few different customers complained that my website is showing "nothing" in internet explorer (which I never personally use), and I just tested it to find that they are absolutely correct - only the top logo and main menu show, but none of my other modules or content - not even my main body content on the home page. Since a large percentage of our visitors use IE according to our web statistics, this is a HUGE problem. The site looks fine in Mozilla and Safari, run on either Mac OSX or WIndows XP (although someone running Mozilla on Linux said that the "Recent Videos" module wouldn't load at all for them). How can I fix my site so that IE users can see the content on the front page??? I don't even care if they're not in the proper place for IE, I just want my content to SHOW UP. Testing in IE7 w/ latest updates shows only the main menu - no Recent Videos, no Introscroller, no main body text...nothing. Here's my site of you want to compare browser views:

      ldvflix.com/

Can I make a different home page that will load only for users of IE? It seems the problem is only on the home page. Thanks. I'm using Hyperion, but I'm not sure if this is template specific, plugin specific, or what.

Yeah it wouldn't load that mod for me either on nix box with latest flash player (10.something) in firefox or opera. I'll take a look on windoze box later and see what I can see (or not see)
It almost acts like a script conflict maybe?

    • Indeed blank for me on IE7. Site just acts like it's loading and loading.........................

You can try disabling some of your sites features/ modules one at a time to narrow the problem down to a particular script or module. If you are able to, get to a windows box with IE7 on it for checking as you go.

    • In IE7, it reports the following error:

      Line: 49
      Char: 26
Error: 'document.getElementById[...]' is null or not an object
      Code: 0
      URL: ldvflix.com

Does anyone know what file this would be in, and what module or extension it's associated with? I couldn't find the code in question anywhere in index.php in the root folder, or in index.php in the rt_hyperion folder.

Also, I redirected with the following code in the HEAD tags in index.php in the rt_hyperion folder, but it redirected every single page on the site to the page in question, not just the home page. So, they get redirected on the home page, then if they try to click "Reviews" in the main menu, that also redirects them to the "New Releases" page. So that is the only page they can view. Did I put the tag in the wrong file or place or what?

    • Also, I can't seem to duplicate the problem in Firefox or Safari, using different versions on different computers. :(

I believe I've narrowed the problem to the "Recent Videos" Flash player...I think. But what to do? The trailers are the most important part of the website, as it's the one thing we can't put on paper in our weekly newsletters. :( I'm not even sure what version of it I'm using. I installed Hyperion w/ Rocket Launcher.

    • I've had the same problems, with IE7 and IE8 (you should test it in IE8 as well).
      I use the Infuse template.
My problem was half loading pages, randomly showing some modules, then on refresh not showing others. Getting parsing errors, and sometimes IE would crash altogether, which wasn't a good sign.

I searched the net and found several fixes.
First one being an issue IE has with loading javascripts, so went to joomla.org and found "ReReplacer". Check it out. You create a new search (call it anything), then enter "search" for domready, replace it with load. I found that solution on the sigsiu.net forum. It fixed heaps of my issues in IE7&8. Aparently it helps IE wait till the page fully loads before it starts javascript running. (i dont really understand, but it worked).

Then I went to the W3c validation (google it) page, ran my site thru it, and it showed all other little bits of misplaced code etc. After cleaning all my pages up to be W3c valid, the whole site works like a dream in IE now. (always did work in every other browser).

Another problem I had was an embedded utube video in an article (IE only). Had to install "all videos reloaded" plugin, then it worked fine in IE.

      Good luck

    • Hey, thanks!! I'll try all of those things. Suddenly my modules and content are showing again in IE7, aside from an issue with some images trying to load horizontally instead of vertically. The only change I made was when I updated the article on the front page, so I'm not sure if there was some weird code hiding in the one my partner posted beforehand - I didn't see anything that looked out of the ordinary, though. I'm viewing it in IE7 version 7.0.6001.18000 right now w/ just the alignment problem showing up. Weird! Will look into those fixes anyways.
