I am busy designing a site with about 400 different articles and I would like people to be able to login and comment.
I was going to use jcomment but I see that it only works for SEF based sites and mine is not.
I am not looking for anything all singing all dancing - just a basic option where people can add their five cents if the fancy.
Any suggestions? I am using the dominion template.
I really like this one because it gives a good layout and also gives people several ways to login if you want. Makes it easy for them and yourself to post and to moderate. :cheesy:
Thanks for that but I was wondering if I could in fact use it when it warns:
"NOTICE: RokComments requires Joomla SEF is required to be turned on for this plugin to function properly and interact reliably with these comment systems. This is because the comments are associated with the URL and non-SEF URLs with & in them are truncated by these systems."
I assume SEF means search engine friendly urls? Which uou set in global config. Mine is not set to that because when I do the whole systems plotzes.
Thanks
(Am so pleased with my site :cheesy: thanks guys for putting together rocket theme!!!)
If it's an issue with not wanting SEF turned on, that's fine, but if you just had an issue with turning it one, that might be able to be solved.
Does jcomments require that SEF be used as well? That sounds weird to me because as a commenting system, it's completely loaded in Joomla whereas RokComments uses a service for it's commenting.
Sorry jcomments was my mistake regarding the SEF, I had them back to front.
I am busy trying to get the site to load with SEF urls and am having no lunk.
On global config I have set the three options to yes, but that didn't work, then I tried just the top 2 options but that still hasn't worked (just get a 404 error) so I can't manage to see how the RokComments works (simply doesn't feature despite choosing select all) so can't work out what I am doing wrong... whether it's my installation or the SEF issue or both...
You have to use an FTP client and change your htaccess.txt file to .htaccess for SEF to work. It's using a system installed on your server to rewrite the urls and this file is the one that it looks to for directions on how to do it.
Rokcomments do look pretty good. Sometimes it's hard to choose which comment system is the best for your site. Do you have any advice on blogs? I'm starting to think that apart from MyBlog, there are no good blog components out there for Joomla. Non commercial components anyway.
I would stay away from MyBlog for several reasons. If your looking for something other than core Joomla functions, I would really try one of these CCK extensions. They seem overwhelming at first, but are much nicer to use and have more helpful features in the long run.
