    demo

Posted 18 years 2 months ago
    • Hi All,

How do I setup a demo site like demo.rockettheme.com?

I want to show the variations I did for a client, I did a few designs...

      Would the demo concept work?

    • I was looking at buying joomlacloner, and asked a friend that has a joomla tempalte shop if he had ever used it. He said they used it exclusively, and that they used it to setup their demos. Not sure exactly how, but that's what he told me.

    • The demo site is just separate installs of joomla, with a little html frame around them, so you can pick an 'install' from the dropdown box and it reloads the lower frame. The source is available in the top navigation frame. it's not rocket science and about 90% of the other joomla clubs have already copied it :)

    • One of the great features of some hosting accounts is Fantastico. In less than a minute you can install some of the best open source programs out there, including Joomla. As long as you have enough space and databases, you can install as many instances of Joomla you like.

    • Even if you don't have fantastic, you can install joomla in less than 60 seconds.. it's just that easy.

    • Ok, you can't drop a 60 second Joomla install bomb and not tell us how. I am assuming using gzip and some extraction....please tell us!!

    • oh it's trivial:

      1) cp joomla*.gz ~/yournewsite
      2) cd ~/yournewsite
      3) tar zxf joomla*.gz
      4) open browser to http://yoursite/yournewsite
      5) click through options, entering db info etc (typing fast of course)
      6) rm -Rf installation/

      done

    • Those steps assume that one has shell access to their site, and the compressed joomla file still located on their site.

Shell in, do those steps, and bam! You have a new install.

    • try this:
      extensions.joomla.org/component/option,c...nk_id,822/Itemid,35/

Downloads and installs Joomla in snap. This particular method uses two files, I belive there's a different Joomla downloader that only uses one.

Also, just a warning for godaddy users. If you install Joomla using their value added applications in your hosting control panel, the MySQL database wont count against the ones in your hosting account but you wont have easy access to it as you do with your other ones.
