Wiki choice- DocuWiki vs. MediaWiki

I am getting close to setting up our wiki and have been looking at two of them. I am wondering what experience all of you have had and what you recommend. I see different discussions up about wikis, though I am so confused at this moment.
The two that I have been looking at are DocuWiki and MediaWIki. These seem very simular in their functions though I am not sure what would be best. The wiki will be used for two purposes.
One: public wiki for members to submit guides, walk throughs, strats, etc.
Two: private wiki for the developers for design documents, updates and nightly builds.
I see that both have bridges for joomla, though not sure how those work. I also see that they both have different sets of plugins as well.
What experience do you all have, and which would you recommend and why?
