Bizarre redirection problem - please help!

  • Bizarre redirection problem - please help!

    • Hi guys,

I have a client who I built a Joomla 1.0.15 website with RT Fire template few years ago. Apparently he's having weird problem where some people cannot access his website at www.extremefreedom.co.nz

He claims people will go to the website, the site will start loading for a split second and then visitors are redirected to Google home page. He says it's happening to a good half of his website visitors.

Frankly I'm stumped. I can't for the life of me reproduce the problem on my end and if there is something wrong with the site, I just can't find it. The web hosting support guys couldn't find anything obviously wrong with the website either.

I have tried accessing the site from 10 different computers using Windows XP, Vista & 7 and Mac OS. I tried Explorer 6, 7 & 8, Opera, Firefox and Safari. I even accessed the site using different ISPs in case they have wrong DNS records. The site loads fine every time for me, regardless whether I go directly or via Google or Bing search.

To be on the safe side I reuploaded the core files and the template files and rewrote the .htaccess file but he still claims he's getting complaints.

Could you guys please help me out and see if you can access the website at www.extremefreedom.co.nz

If you can't and in fact do get redirected elsewhere, can you please let me know if you have noticed anything unusual when accessing the site.

Any other ideas on what I should look at are most welcome.

      Thanks heaps

    • Hmm, I did open that site from 3 different computers with all range of browsers and everything seems OK to me.
I do not even see anything wrong in source code! So maybe some DNS problems of those people with access problems?
    • I am here to help you. But do not forget to write all information - joomla version and if possible link to your problem. No PM´s unless requested!!
If you send access info in PM, write also link to your site and link to forum thread!!!

    • I was redirected to Google. :)

Maybe they don't want Americas visiting the site, since we are giving away are freedoms with each passing day, so perhaps a range block/redirect in their htaccess?

    • Thank you guys for looking into this.

Martin, thank you for looking at the source code, it's good to have a confirmation from someone like yourself.

Terp, did you manage to see the website for a split second before redirected or did it take you to Google straight away? Did you notice anything that might give away why is it happening?

      Thanks again,
      Michal
