My 'right' modules shifted down on my homepage only. How??

I have hwdvideoshare on my site and I was configuring backend settings to allow users to upload videos from their computers instead of pasting a URL from another site like YouTube. The reason I'm posting this here is that I barely did anything related to hwdVideoShare (except change settings specific to this extension, which does not even have any active frontpage modules/plugins/components at all) and somehow my all right side modules shifted down to almost the bottom of my page while the area above it is empty. My frontpage is set up category-blog style, and when you go to page 2 and any full article pages, it's normal again so it seems to only affect the frontpage. Why would this happen and how can I fix this? Is this a template issue?
The only thing I could imagine is, I tried to run a script (ubr_upload.pl) from my cgi-bin but it never worked. All I got was a 500 Internal Server error, which should mean that it didn't work anyway. I had to insert info into my .htaccess file but when it still didn't work, I replaced it with the original .htaccess file but then noticed the shift after trying all of this. I was not on the homepage to see this happen while testing, so I'm not sure at what point this happened or if it has anything to do with what happened.

- I found out it was a weird article image issue that I still don't understand. I have no idea why a category blog preview image would affect the modules in the 'right' position like that. I'm using a thumbnailer which has been tricky but with all its issues, it has never altered anything other than the full article or blog text. To fix this I duplicated the article and switched out the problem image for a resampled version of that same image. Strange...

glad you got it working now. probably there was a <div> tag mismatch which usually will result in some areas being displayed in the wrong place. you could try that original article again and then run a html/xhtml validation of your site at: w3schools.com/site/site_validate.asp
