Gantry and Multiple Websites

  • Gantry and Multiple Websites

    • I am creating 6 separate websites using the Crystalline template. Should I use the Crystalline RocketLauncher to install Joomla/Crystalline for each website, or is there a more efficient way?

      Thanks,

      Ken

    • Um, do you have a license for 6 sites ? Just thought that I should ask.

      Cheers

    • I am saying 6 websites hypothetically. I am trying to determine if Joomla/Rockettheme would be a good strategy for us in creating websites for our clients. If so, I will gladly pay the $240 unlimited entitlement fee when we exceed our 3.

I am very impressed with Gantry and the unlimited potential of the Crystalline template. I could see this one template being used to create dozens of unique websites.

    • If you want to develop sites that are basically the same but vary in content, you can develop the basic site format and then use Akeeba, formerly JoomlaPack to duplicate and deploy the sites.

    • We develop websites for the healthcare industry -- mostly doctors, dentists, hospital, etc.
We are looking for a platform to develop professional-looking websites in a timely manner.
The websites would not be related -- created for separate clients.

To me, the Gantry framework with the flexibility of the Crystalline template is the ultimate design/developer platform. With this one template and some CSS magic, you can create a bunch of cool websites that look unique. Rockettheme is in a league of their own.

What I am now trying to determine is what does this Rockettheme strategy look like a couple of years down the road with a hundred or more client websites. If I understand correctly, each Joomla/Rockettheme install is separate and uses a separate MySQL database, etc.

With 100 Gantry-based websites, I will be updating Gantry 100 times when updates come out, correct?
I don't mind doing this, but I would feel pretty foolish doing this if there was some way to have Gantry installed once on my hosting server.

Any links to understanding the updating process for a Rockettheme newbie like myself would be appreciated. I am only interested in Gantry templates -- nothing before 2010.

      Thanks,

      Ken

There's no way to determine that, especially with J1.6 on the horizon

Yes, one install = one server / site / domain and one database. If you are updating a template / Joomla version, there's no way to do this dynamically. Each would need to be updated individually. This has nothing to do with RT, it's just the way web sites / servers / Joomla works.

Yes, that is correct. But you'd be doing that with any template producer / Joomla version. And with 100 websites, you may want to consider a Developer's license.
