Thanks. that works. I just thought there may be a way to convert the index.php file to an html file so I could add in some static text areas and still link to same css files as the joomla template. That way any changes to the css would propagate to the "static" page.
I don't see why you couldn't do just that - strip out the PHP and save it as an HTML file, at the end of the day, the core structure of the template is just HTML anyway; the PHP just does some clever stuff with the layouts pretty much.
