Bizarre Front-End Editing Layout Problem

This is a recent problem, within the last few days. Everything was working fine before then, and I have not changed any site preferences or made any joomla updates. When a user (publisher) tries to edit his/her article from the front-end, instead of pulling up the article editor the page becomes all jumbled up and you can see pieces of the editor, but none of them work. In a joomla forum I saw that front-end editing may stop working if your server updates their php, and I followed their fix for that, with the following result: I can now edit articles in the front-end in Safari, but I still can't edit them in Firefox. It does not matter if I'm logged in as the user who created the article, a different user, or admin. Firefox still jumbles up the page, which is odd since the fix worked in Safari. I cleared the cache and everything else that can be cleared in Firefox, including cookies, history, site preferences, etc. The fix [changing some code in uri.php from joomla 4.4 to joomla 5.1] still doesn't work. Any other ideas for what could be wrong??? Anyone else having problems in the frontend with firefox??

- The code fix doesn't work in Internet Explorer, either, apparently. Only Safari.
