I've had great success with RT templates but since Gantry was introduced I've had nothing but problems. I tried to upgrade one site to this month's template and lost the site. I had to completely uninstall everything to clean up the mess. Thank God I've got a backup. I have my sites hosted and the Gantry templates appear to be too complex and use too many resources. As far as I'm concerned, RT templates are getting too complicated. I'm not prepared to change providers and my subscription ends soon, so goodbye Rockettheme, and thanks for the templates up to November 2009. Someone else with less complex, more elegant and less resource-hungry templates will get my money in 2010. I use Virtuemart and Gallery as well, so a simple minimalist template is what I want. Rockettheme seems to have become infatuated with stuffing everything into their templates just for the sake of it and making them unusable in the real world.
Many users try to use the wrong package when upgrading...
Make sure you are using the proper template / package when upgrading your site (bundle vs. package).
As far as being 'resource hungry', for hosting, you get what you pay for... Gantry is not so resource intensive, but if you host is not configured to run Joomla optimally, or if you have no options to tweak your setting to get it to run correctly, honestly, RT is not to blame.
(I have installed EVERY Gantry template on my host (and localhost) without issues - as well as the other moderators)
Best of luck to you in the search for a better template provider.

Or you could use pre-2010 templates and subscribe for the access to the excellent support from the Moderators in these forums.
I have not switched many of my sites to Gantry-based forums, but I'm happy to keep subscribing for the fast, detailed and user-friendly support that I get here - for Jommla as well as for the templates and extensions. And I get extra entitlements each year that I re-subscribe.
Been with RT for a few years now and i have to say any problems i have had i just use the forums, the mods here are a credit to RT and the money you pay to renew is well worth the investment.
Why not take the time to post up and see if your problems can be resolved!
Sounds like the problem is with the hosting provider. It's been my experience that you generally get what you pay for with Joomla hosting. I think Gantry is pretty sweet. It does tax your server to install the bundle. Mine kicks it out too. I just install them separately and it works great.
At first, I honestly didn't like Gantry but now I love it. As a designer, the less I have to look at code to customize the design, the happier I am. Thanks Rocket Theme for continuing to push the boundaries. I've had developer licenses on pretty much all the template clubs and I've committed to using only Rocket Theme templates moving forward. They're file structures are well organized which makes finding what you need to change much easier. Also, the fact that there are a lot of style sheets shouldn't compromise the performance of the site.
Also, despite the fact that are many styles and scripts loading, RT templates actually encounter the LEAST amount of conflicts with other extensions. There are lots of template providers though who offer nice designs that are simple and clean. One of them in particular, I won't mention the name, but although they do great templates which are easy to customize, I can't get them to work with ANY outside extensions that use jQuery. I don't know about you guys, but I don't have time to troubleshoot that sort of stuff and I'm grateful that the developers at RT have already worked this out. Thanks again, RT!
before coming to RT I experienced a lot of problems as a newbie to joomla. It took me a while to figure out that my host's server setup was the problem (I was beginning to think, that I did not have the stuff to make Joomla work right). The good news is, that I actually saved a ton of money when I switched to a host that was geared for joomla (that is what I went looking for and saved big time as well).
Since joining RT I have had no problems that were not a result of GIGO (which I quickly was able to correct).
I know that when troubles in development and maintenance appear it usually takes a great toll on the admin tryong to resolve the issue and some times it becomes terribly frustrating. Walking away from the issue for a bit and then revisiting it with a fresh perspective often help.
The funny thing is that, I have found that the Gantry Framework makes manipulating a very complexed site incredibly user friendly.
