When I have time I will try a Gantry template
... I’m with RT for few years now and really happy with their work. So far they impress me with the quality of their work and thetr support and they should be praise for it.
I look at the infos on Gantry, look really interesting.
I will come back here after my test and tell the truth, only but the truth (My truth anyway) :cheesy:
But few litle mishaps on older templates from RT let me wondering...
Example 1— the code to have the normal Joomla print/pdf/email have to be hack in the template — If I remember it was Hivemind, Chromatophore and other....
• Common this is a Joomla main possibility missing....
Example 2 — You need to have a degree in mathematic and physics to be able to modified the width of the left and right columns — Solar Sentinel
• This should be basic stuff on any template....
and few minor other thing....
What I’m coming to!
As a webmaster and designer I’m completly ok with the statement of Julie here;At first, I honestly didn't like Gantry but now I love it. As a designer, the less I have to look at code to customize the design, the happier I am.
But, I can see theAt first, I honestly didn't like Gantry
I tell you why a real web designer will not like a template....
When a system dictate the creation... I explain my process so far with non-Gantry templates...
1— When I make a web site for a client... I first design what I want for the design & functionality, with no bondaries or limitation.
2— I come to Rocket and pickup the template that will give me the less work to acheive my goal.
3— I tweak the template [b]exactly [/b] the way It was imagine and design at first
Note: I’m a detail freak
So far, I alway acheive my goal.
If Gantry don’t give me that degree of flexibility, I will have to find another provider or even do my own templates if I’m not satisfied. The quality and flexibility of the older template here, for sure, save me a lot of time. This is the point that bring web designer here, in a competitive market, saving time is good.
I will advise Rocket to listen to what I just say here and even have some suggestions.
To be sure to be on top do this...
1— procure a template system to give possibility to anyone without web knowledge to make easily beautiful web sites
2— procure to the professionals out there templates that maximize and simplify their power of creativity
Follow this and you will stay on top, go middle way you will loose the pro and the newbie, go either way you loose a part of the market.
— More than 20 years in Marketing talking...
But maybe it’s the rambling babbling of brain from the 70’s.....

I have to say that I disagree in every point you bring up.
Gantry templates are far easier to control then older templates.
Remember the source ordering in earlier templates (from mynxx to infuse)?
I never really understood all these negative margins. The 960px system in gantry is the easiest and clearest framework – both for professional-devs and users. It's the most flexible thing I have ever seen. No more left and right – just sidebars now! You can change the ordering like you want it. Try that with one of the older templates … not mentioning the infinite possibilities to change and configure modules ... just with sliders (!) even per menu-item (!!!)
Ever looked into the features-folder? Ever looked at modules.php or layouts in the template-folder? No? Or looked at gantry-framework.org? Well in that case ... I can't help you ...
Btw: print/pdf/email? Frankly I dont understand you: it's still there ... - Last Edit: 14 years 10 months ago by Henning.

that I never try a Gantry template because I didn”t have the time, yet. My son need a web site, I will probably try it soon...
I’m going from place to place in Rocket, when I have spare time to have an idea about Gantry....So far it seem very cool.
Coming from you Henning this is reassuring, I cannot wait to try.....
As I was saying, even with my entire satisfaction with the solidity and support of the Rocket Products I point out little (important) points of my experience here.
The rest is exactly to bring opinion around Gantry and what about the best place to do it in a very negative Post Title.
And a little free advise... from an happy customer.

I have to say that overall I have been very happy with RT. Great designs, support, and pricing, but Gantry is a resource hog. Plain and simple.
Yes, you get what you pay for in hosting but the question then becomes, "if my site is super fast before gantry on the same server, then..."
So far, version 3 seems to be performing better but it is still slow compared to other pre-gantry RT themes.
Of course, as much as I love RT, it isn't a one size fits all outlet, no one is. I find a great deal of value with themes here but also have developer accounts with other vendors as well. No retailer sells from just one vendor, so why should I or you?
