Aloha All,
I've seen a few posts here lately saying "Gantry is a deal Breaker" or "I'm done" etc etc etc...
To all of those like minded people; it's your right to bring your business elsewhere. That's capitalism at its finest...
To those on the fence or are new here to RT, I wanted to share a few reasons why I've renewed as a developer for another year along with some background that I'm sure many of us share.
I found RT probably like many via a free template. Mine was a J 1.0 one in fact. I then sold that website for about 1500 US. So I joined as a regular member and then upgraded to Dev since I felt it was "right thing to do" since entitlements are basically on the honor system. Being a retired US Marine, doing things "right" is just in my nature.
My time here on the RT Forums has taught me more about Joomla, PHP, and CSS then I could have learned by reading any book or taking any class as there are nothing but real world examples here in the forums.
During that time I've also made some very good friends in the forums and we have taken up projects together outside of the RT realm. (Shout out to J!eremy and Wingman, my AF Brethren)
The Mods and other members on here always go out of their way to answer questions. Even my stupid ones or ones that I know they have answered so many times they could do it in their sleep. Yet they do so normally with a
at the end of the post. Personally, that would drive me crazy! I'm going to try to make it a point to ask one question, answer three to give these guys a break!
I have/had developer memberships in two other J! Template clubs and to be honest, the support s*c&s. Not only that, but in the past year I haven't been able to deploy a single template for a client from any other club as they lack the professionalism of the RT themes.
Have a look at some of the other template forums..nothing but dissatisfied customers getting crap support (IMHO). But I can provide references if need be.
For those who aren't sure about Gantry, I can only say this;
When you first started learning Joomla, you were probably overwhelmed with it but then learned to love it or you wouldn't be here. I think the same is true about Gantry. It extends J templates so much that you need to take the time to learn the system. You can't just treat it like a standard template because it's not. It's a framework within a framework as it were.
Yes, back end is a bit slower, but let me ask you this...once everything is set for you (layout(s)), how often do you mess with your template settings? Nuff said?
Is RocketTheme Perfect? Nope, not by any stretch of the imagination. But my experience and "vibe" tells me this is a company to stick with. Why else would Andy be mentioned so much in the 1.6 template "to do" list? And why would he be bold enough to release Gantry as GPL?
Bottom line is this...I develop sites using Joomla as it fits my needs. RocketTheme has been and will remain a major part of my business success.

It becomes visible after you help 50 other club members with questions etc.

Wonder if Dustin Evans still works for RT? He has done some great designs ...
But perhaps we will see a new direction in design ...
Also for some time now Brian Tyndall has the mod-badge under his Avartar ... so he is a new member of the mod team
