Solar Sentinel - what to look for when you choose extensions

    • A couple of things:
Does RocketTheme have a "black list" of people that you can post experiences with so called professional Joomla developers. I have a story that might save the next guy a headache and between $500-$1000 dollars he took the money upfront did half of what I asked him to then ran. leaving me with a mess. If so this might be a suggestion? Would not know where to put suggestions.

I have need for calendar of events on my website www.reportsolutions.com Home menu in calendar of events submenu.
What I needed was a way to post events on my site about up coming trainings and webinars. Having the registration information form there would be great as well. I went to Joomla extensions and found both non-commercial calendars and registration tools. However.....
How do I know if it will work with Solar Sentinel. Is it trial and error? Do they usually post something if it won't work with Solar Sentinel? I need a Calendar to post events and a Course Registration tool
Is there a way to know if any of these work together? Example: amoCourse extensions.joomla.org/extensions/calenda...s/courses-a-training or
A Calendar tool like one of these.
      extensions.joomla.org/extensions/calendars-a-events/calendars or
An events registration tool like one of these.
      extensions.joomla.org/extensions/calenda.../events-registration

Any suggestions would be appreciated. If you know a reasonably priced Joomla developer that knows his/her stuff send my way please. One that will communicate and not disappear preferably.

    • Hey Fletcher,

I'm sorry to hear you have a bad experience with some one. I feel your pain, but since I'm on the other side of the fence I do most stuff myself. I'm a software developer currently working on a project with our local library. I'm putting together my first Joomla Site (based on the solar sentinel template in fact). I've had to do the research on the extensions and have had to modify all of them (programatically in php) since they either were all buggy or my client asked me for a modification. They have an additional task in making the site not look like an out of the box blog website which is pretty typical for most folds.

      Here's a tip:
All extensions take a fair amount of time to :

      1) Research & Evaluate
      2) Install & Configure
      3) Debug & Test
      4) Enhance.

In your case, I'm using JCal Pro.2.x. I has a lot of features & extensions and integrates within Joomla 1.5x nicely. There were a couple of features which my client wanted which I did myself. I've asked serveral targeted to the bulletin board but was pretty much a waste of my time. For instance, they wanted to show a full year of their holidays and closings which I modified the php to show in there latest events tabs. Jcal also allows front-end users & patrons to post new events on the calendar but we are not using this feature.

      My site: mcpltesting.dynalias.net/
Go to Events and you'll see the main monthly calendar. Also, we have a lot of sidebars which show the latest events (for week & month) depending on the view (ie. kids, board, general adults).

      Hope this Helps,
      Best Regards,
      Scott
