    Login and security issue

Posted 18 years 1 month ago
    • I am wanting to use some kind of login ability to section part of my site as secure for those whom I give access to view it.
Is there some way to set up a kind of closed registration to enable this? - Thanks.

    • Could you clarify your questions a bit more?

I get the impression that you want to control the registration but I could be wrong

    • Sure - From what I understand, anyone who registers can access content marked as 'special' as opposed to 'public'. And yet anyone can access - I don't have control over that - right?

Yet I only want certain people to be able to access the content marked 'special' by me. Maybe controlling registration is what I am after.
or is there another way to make selected content of the site secure by some other means without dabbling with .htaccess stuff?

    • There are 3 types, Public, Registered, and Special.

Only Super Admins, Admins, Managers, Authors, Publishers and Editors can see special content.

Normal registered users cannot see special items

    • Thanks - I had no idea that joomla blocks new registrations as default, as the test registration I set up told me that it would shoot an email my way with a link that I would need to activate my registration. It just sent a confirmation email with my details - no activation link?

Can you confirm that this is standard.

Also - do I need to manually check the user manager each day to activate new registrations or is there an easier way to do this - thanks.

    • Joomla! is highly configurable. If you check the Admin Panel Site>Global Configuration ... you can change all the settings such as :-
      -Admin approval
      -Email Activiation
      -No Registration
      -Disable frontend login

Also, I use Community Builder on my sites which has settings within its configuration

      Hope that clears things out

    • Is there a way to limit access user specific? Can I publish something and only have certain people see it?
