Thanks for the comments. I made those changes and things look much better. Do the broken image links matter? I never understood why that stuff is important if it looks and works fine- but I am sure there is some reason. I will try fixing the ones I find in the template.

Thanks for all of your help,

      John

They make a -tiny- impact on performance, but not enough to worry about.
But what they really do is make the designer look unprofessional.
Would you go back to a mechanic who left garbage, used parts and boxes on the floor of your car when you picked it up?
They also make it harder to modify your template later, because you have a lot of unnecessary code clogging things up.

It's looking a lot better. I still think you need to center that back ground image though. If you expand the window, the content moves but the background doesn't.

    • Bloggs-X :not sure why the modules didnt come up for you. I have never had that problem. What browser are you using?

Ninja: I am going to take your advice and try to center the image. I am new to CSS, so it may be a while, but I think you are right, that will make it look "100%". I also see what you mean with the CSS links. Pretty sloppy way of working. I think I will remove them as well. Thanks for all of the help, and explaining why it is important. If people care about 'polish", then it is important. I think I will even start erasing uneccessary stories in Joomla! that are in default install and unpublished for the same reason. I really appreciate the advice. I build websites for friends and acquiantences for some extra school money only, but that doesnt mean they dont deserve a good product.

Everybody: Thanks for the help in getting this site going. I was very proud of the background image, and I appreciate your help in making the rest of the site impressive. By the way, if you and a client disagree about the look of a site, post a message here- the people here might convince them to make the change. (That is what happened for me with the Times New Roman problem mentioned in an earlier post).

      Thanks for the heads up,
      John

    • I am having a problem with differences between IE and Mozilla. Mozilla works fine, (at least on my computer), but when I use IE the menu column on the right starts after the body, instead of next to the body. Does anybody know why this is happening? I have been trying for hours and cannot figure it out to save my life. ??? I have attached a copy of the css, I dont know if it is necessary.

      Thanks in advance,
      John

    • At my screen it's not showed like you meant to show it at other peoples computerscreens... but no worry I have got a 22" widescreen 1680 x 1050 px. I know that it's a bit bigger than an average screen connected to an average computer and when I make the window of mozilla smaller it shows correct ;) but look at the screenshot what happens.

    • It's I suppose a little change in de code to center the background image and the problem will be saved for every browser. I like the design!
