Concept:
What good is creating a customer website with Rocket Theme when you don't know much about the framework it's built on?
During my last few website builds, I came to realise that I really needed to learn more about the inner workings of Gantry, so I opted to create our company website from scratch using the Gantry framework, rather than just editing a Rocket Theme template.
I made good use of CSS (although I still need to optimise and compress) and page class suffix.
Extensions:
Extensions I used include the fantastic tabber, and jumi. Everything else is pretty much css manipulation, and html markup.
I opted to use Wufoo for the contact form (not a Joomla! extension) as I could sit this in a module at 50% width with the contact information also 50% width. I used the jumi extension to inject javascript onto pages that required it (rather than loading into all pages).
I still have a little work left optimising the website, but I am happy with the overall feel.
I had a big look at that front page when I was designing it - I really wanted the background image to stretch but allow for all links to be shown. I opted for overflow:hidden in the end to get rid of the scroll bar.
After reading a few design articles (mostly smashing magazine) I decided to cater to the most used resolution in my Google Analytics profile.
What resolution are you using to view the front page?
