I'm brand new to RocketTheme, but your stuff is top-notch for sure.
I've volunteered at my church to re-do the website. Old one was bad - so I'm going totally from scratch, using the Versatility III template. I didn't do much tweaking - I found it pretty much perfect right out of the box for our application.
Here are the url's
Old Site (should become the new site in a few weeks):
mrmbc.org
New Site (should re-direct when moved):
mrmbc.org/comingsoon/
Development
- Not much - just some stuff with feeds - feedburner is taking care of it. Small conservative churches (mostly with older congregations) need to be exposed to the "new technology" that is out there at their fingertips - hopefully I can make that happen a bit with the ministry of this site - but enough with my soap-box
Additional Comments:
At this point, the site is still a work in progress, but nearing completion. Some of the photo banners are good - some need some work. Eventually some of the content will be members-only, so I apologize if you're looking for the calender and don't see it.
Thoughts on design of the site: Too many church sites give you way too many options when you visit the site. I've tried to give the user sort of a road-map when they visit the site. You either are a member, or a visitor, so you click accordingly. From there, the options are (hopefully) clearly laid out before you. My goal is to present any relevant data to either the brand new to our church visitor, or the member of the church visitor, and I'd like it to look good and function well.
Anyway - thought I'd say thanks for the great templates/extensions/support and show off how I'm using one pretty much straight out of the box.
Thanks for the compliments! Once we "go live" with the site (i.e., move it from /comingsoon to the root), I'll put a favicon in.
Chew Hoe Ang, did that tutorial clear up your open_sef issue? If not, let me know - but I just followed that tutorial word-for-word. The major steps that are sticking out in my mind are enabling the "search engine friendly" url's in the joomla global settings, going into the root directory and renaming and editing the "htaccess.txt" file.
