After the release of Ximenia, I decided to redo the site. I really enjoy working with this template.
The site is not done. The Sticky Note links work and the news link works. What I am really looking for is some suggestions on how I can liven up the page, without making it look too busy. The green chalkboard background is kind of boring. Any and all suggestions or feedback is greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Nice use of the template. I like what you have done with the showcase.
For me, "less is more." I do not feel the chalkboard is boring... but rather a good image background so that the more important images pop. Which is what you want, right?

Yes, I want the images to pop...right now, the images are low-quality and will be much nicer in the final product.
I might try to make the chalkboard a littler darker...maybe that will add a little more contrast. Again, thank you for the feedback.

To liven it up...use a lighter color for the background instead of the drab gray.
main-dark.css (Line 9)
background-color: #2D2D2D;
Change that to something lighter...and then adjust your other colors accordingly. - Thank you,
