We use RegOnline for event registrations, they are pretty good, would be great of course if the rockettheme team would build a good conference site with event registration. Correct they have been doing conferences for 15 years, I just done this site in February. I will keep on tweaking it to get it better. I took the photos myself and even made the bottons. I also done some tweaking on the CSS and tried to make different parts of the site with different themes to it. Still working on that.

You may want to check out RT's Entropy template demo.rockettheme.com/apr11/ - it's made specifically for special event promotion, it's based on Gantry framework (so your module positions, module variations and typography tags would require minor changes if any). The demo included bios for speakers too.
Outside the world of RT, Gavick released a theme called Fest that is a special event theme that's responsive and works well but would require more changes than you'd have if you stick with a Gantry based theme.
For Event Registration extensions. DT Register is easily the most robust extension available. Events Booking (by JoomDonation) is an excellent event registration extension too though a little less robust.

Thanks for your reply and all that knowledgeable information. I took a look at the Rocket theme Entropy, I also took a look at Gavick's template Fest. They both work nicely but don't seem to have enough possibilities in the schedule section, the schedule is a very important part of a conference site, if you take a look at the last conference that we done, here:

you can see that we use more space for who will be on the schedule at the time noted, also the location of the scheduled item, as well as the speakers, sometimes four or five per session and their titles. The possibility to submit a speaker via the site, where he/she can choose their subject, and fill in Bio, photo etc. The idea behind a good conference is to keep the amount of emails from speakers and attendees to a minimum by allowing them to send as much online and via the site. We have only 3 people who organize the conference and it's important that as much as possible can be done via the site.
Sponsors are very particular about the showing of their logos on the front page as well as using their own colors, I have in the past greyed out logos but get emails from sponsors that they would prefer their logo to be the original colors. I find that it is really important for an events site, especially business / Financial sector. House style, fonts, colors are a must. I have been looking for quite a while now to find a suitable template for the conference, without much luck.
I do however like the speakers section of Entropy.
