Okay Bukava,
Here is what I had to do to make VOTD work on my site:
You have to change your php.ini file.
Change this:
allow_url_fopen = off
to this:
allow_url_fopen = on
Should work like a charm

I've viewed the site in IE6, IE7, and FF 2.0.0.8 and it looks fine. What version of FF are you using?
