The design brief was: "Can you build me a site please?!" Pretty much free rein with regard to colour and design/layout. More effort has been put into functionality rather than styling, so that probably needs some work moving forwards.
It's an e-commerce site built using Magento. It's been a long project due to many different reasons, but it went live a few days ago. There are just under 20,000 products, and I'm waiting for about 25% of the images still, but these will be added in the next couple of months once the photographer has finished.
Specs: Magento 1.7.0.2 Rockettheme Ionosphere template & associated extensions Clist: (a discontinued magento extension for displaying categories & sub-categories) Activo url shortener: (to avoid duplicate content issues in Google it doesn't display the category in the URL, just the product URL) Magmi: A mass product importing script. Necessary to make grouped product associations quickly. Store Manager for Magento: Absolutely vital IMO for making changes to lots of products very quickly. Expensive, but great software. Amasty parts finder: Enables searching of large amounts of products based upon certain product attributes. EU VAT Grouper extension Enables 0% VAT for European transactions when a valid EU tax number is used. Google Web Font: Fredericka the Great
Hosting: Hostgator level 7 VPS.
This will be an ongoing project with constant tweaks here and there, plus there are a good few thousand products still to be added. Any feedback welcome! Thanks.
I know what you mean, but I wanted it to be very minimal, I just kept paring it down until I was left with a very minimal template. There was 2 reasons for that; most importantly when all the images are added there will be lots of colour and I didn't want the template competing for visual dominance. Secondly, Magento can be a little sluggish even when you've spent time optimising it. With a minimal template hopefully this will help with page loading times.
