I have been playing around with Joomla Rocketthemes offline but now want to upload a new website.
I have downloaded Synapse 1.0 and 1.5 but am not sure whether to go for v1.0 if it is more stable or v1.5 to make it easier than trying to upgrade to v1.5 later.
Any helpful comments?
I think a lot of the decision is based upon extensions that you are going to deploy. If they are tested and stable on 1.5, then it's probably a good idea to go to 1.5. If they aren't, then you obviously have decisions to make - do you need the extensions?, do they have a beta (and can you use it?)...
I am working on my 3 sites now...2 using J1.5 and 1 using J1.0.15. Like fpccsvb said, I think the decision should be purely a function of the extensions needed/available, rather than stability in the code, as J1.5 is stable and polished to most people...flawless to me.
Sure, if you can get the site down solely using the extensions in the RT Synapse package, then J1.5 is your guy! That would keep it lean and mean and pretty speedy, too. I try to keep extensions to the absolute minimum, so going this route is impressive...just install J1.5 launcher, add content, publish.
I'm a newbie to ROCKET, I have been working with web and graphic design for years, and after a year of convincing from a good friend here at ROCKET, I am now working with a template.
My main confusion is how to set this up on a server that I already have... The tutorials cover installing SYNAPSE through the JOOMLA ADMIN, but it doesnt cover how you go about setting this up on your server --- what folder do I set this up as... My questions basically is, how do I set this up from the beginning?
: Hey actually I figured it out, my hosting does support Joomla, but only the 1.0.15 version, not the 1.5 version
But now that I figured that out I am trying to change the content, I am very used to DreamWeaver, how can I check or moderate the changes I make the Synapse template?
Just out of curiosity, who do you use for hosting? There may be technical reasons J1.5 won't work with your hosting, but if it's because they only offer J1.0.x as an installed app, I would try installing J1.5 by downloading an unpacking the Joomla version from Joomla's website (follow the web install instructions). Me thinks if 1.0.x will run on your server, so will 1.5.
As previous posters said, if you can go with 1.5, then do it. If any of the extensions you want to add on aren't compatible (even in "Legacy" mode), then you would be limited to 1.0.x. Personally, I like the admin interface better on 1.5. I'm using Synapse on 1.5, with sh404sef and a few other extensions, and it runs great.
