I like both of the sites, and I like the idea of the sites, but the only feedback I have is with all of the ads. If you have more ads than content, it may drive traffic away from your site. If I were you I would also ad some content on the front page. There are a lot of community driven extensions out there like GroupJive that could help you bring the site to life. Also, if you run contests with your users, that's a great way to get some original content and keep your visitors engaged.
I think your sites have a lot of potential given a little TLC (logo redesign and better ad placement). So keep it up.
