    Coast Community Church - REVAMPED: Replicant2

    Posted 16 years 5 months ago
    • Website URL: Coast Community Church

      Additional Extensions (Components, Modules, Plug ins):
      • JCal Pro - LOVE IT (for 1.5)!!!
      • Looking for a good video component...
      • RokSlideshow from Rocketwerx

      Custom Development: created all but one logo and the worship times banner.  Made my own themes!

      Other Features: UPDATE!!!!  Ok, so, I've been learning.  I'm proud to say I have my own theme chooser now. There are also several other updates that I've had lots of help on   (Thanks for my great review!)  I also added the typography from the Terra Tribune template onto our site, and my co-administrator has been loving that...

      Any specific areas of my site that I'd like feedback on, if any:  Also, just general feedback about the "attractiveness" of the site.  I know it's just information about our church, but I'm curious as to how "interesting" or "boring" it is.  Basically, would visitors be more or less likely to be attracted to getting into the content based on how the content looks (arrangment, ease of use, etc.)

      Additional Comments:  I'm just really enjoying learning...even thinking of going back to school... ;D

    • I love your site - cool color-chooser on top also. I am just getting my feet wet with nominal programming background so I'm very impressed.

      Good luck!

    • Hi Maria,

      Being a beginner, my hat goes off to you. I like this template because of it's adaptability and simplicity. Here are some thoughts. I think you have done a great job with the tabs and articles in them. My very first impression was that it is nice and tight. the color scheme at first was ok, but the bgnd vertical lines were kind of weird. Also, the color chooser distracted me as a viewer and now your logo doesn't match the rest of the site- since I chose some version of brown and cracked bgnd. I think that I might stick with one version and disable the feature for front end users. Or you could have a couple versions and disable all others. Just my thoughts. I sent you an email with the rest.

      Very nice job across the board with respect to appropriate modules where they're supposed to be.

    • Hi Maria,

      Your site has a good clean layout with a perfect color combination, loads quickly and is easy to navigate.

      I might even borrow on or two module ideas for a site I'm building for a friend if you don't mind :)

    • The only comment that I'd have is that the logo seems to be set in the fixed background of the page when it should be set in the "template_css.css" file. It looks weird to scroll down the page and the logo doesn't move.

      Find this:
      img#logo {
           width: 317px;
           height: 88px;
           background: url(../images/logo.png) 0 0 no-repeat;
           margin-top: 20px;
           float: left;
      }
      ... and just change the width and height to your image's size and change the background url to the url of your image. You may need to adjust the top margin too.

      To add to that, place your logo.png in the joomla/template/images folder, replacing the original logo.png

      Try to fix the alignment of 'Register' in the Login.

      I've seen the fix for it here somewhere but I'm not too familiar with the Signal Login Module.

      Perhaps another member can post the fix.

      If you're happy with the color scheme why not turn off the color chooser.

      I think for most sites, once the design is set, having it there distracts visitors from the actual content of the site.

    • Thanks for the great comments. I haven't been able to change the button yet, but the "color" chooser is actually a theme chooser similiar to what's on the cywire site. I embedded the logo with the background because it changes depending on the theme the person chooses. I have a theme for each ministry and their logo appears where the "CCC" logo is (the church name and times stay the same - though they change color to match the theme).

      I knew how to do the logo separate, but this was the only way I could get it to "change" with each theme style.

      I do indeed need to fix the register button...thanks!

      * JCal Pro - LOVE IT (for 2.0)!!!
      * All Videos Reloaded
      * eXtplorer - file manager
      * Fabrik form manager
      * JCE Admin
      * Morfeo Show - AWESOME pic display component!!!!!!!
      * Rokcandy, other roks...

      Custom Development: tweaked the css a bit for color styling, background, other graphics...

      Other Features: Great content! Check out our commercial about Mission Trip. This site had been lost when we switched hosts. (Crabbiness about the backup utility we used...) The site you see now was basically recreated in two weeks - new template, new everything. I've learned a lot!

      I did exactly this thinking that the design coloration I set in color chooser would mean that when others visited my site they would see the Blue theme that I used, however when I checked out the site from a friend's computer the original green lined theme is shown instead of the one I chose with color chooser.

      How do I correct this?
