more minimal now on the Elixer template

    • A fairly stock implementation of Andy's terrific new Elixer template:

      moreminimal.com

This is basically my personal weblog. Flipped it tonight, and there are still some rough edges. But hats off on the December club template. Clean and modern -- and lots of thoughtful typography details. It's gonna really lend itself to modification, too.

    • Great look on the site!

I'm very interested in the Lighter Footstep concept. I'll be checking that one out too when you're ready to launch.

    • Thank you, Dave!

I've toned down some of the color and played with basic stuff like font sizes, but it's pretty much as Andy coded it, Style 1.

I think I'm going to take a shot at eliminating the green. The Web 2.0 palette has shifted from wacky iPod-inspired colors to greys, slate, and jewel tones (see Apple's current site for an example). And the green is a bit bright for a site called "more minimal." But there's so much that can be done with Elixer.

I really hope this template inspires other Joomla designers to start thinking beyond the "portal" look.

[Postscript: I ended up adding a new hilite class, changing the color palette, and simplifying the footer elements.]

    • I've just joined the club, downloaded Elixer 2.0, and am preparing it for my web-site. May I ask how to install the included Font.TTF into Joomla so that it is server side rather than local?

The included font is only needed to edit the logo in Fireworks (or Photoshop), not in Joomla itself.

    • I really like the feel of this site. You know perfectly how to carry off the minimal look with a very comfortable and readable feel... doesn't feel minimal even if it is... nice work.
